When I first moved to Austin, I was a bit overwhelmed by the beautiful locations I had to choose from for photo sessions! I’ve spend many afternoons location scouting all of the beautiful spots around Austin. Now that I’ve done quite a few sessions here, I have a list of my favorite spots! These locations are perfect for senior sessions.
This is probably my favorite location in Austin! Laguna Gloria has a beautiful inside location with a bright couch. The grounds are also stunning with trees, fountains, lake view, and so much more. The museum looks like a mansion and has a very elegant aesthetic. I highly recommend if you want something that looks classy! One thing to note – Laguna Gloria charges a $100 photography fee and must be booked in advance. So let your photographer know in advance if you want this location.
Right down the road from Laguna Gloria is Mount Bonnell! I actually encourage my clients to pair these locations together because Mount Bonnell has the most beautiful sunset with view of the lake and the city of Austin. It can get a bit crowded but I have become skilled at working around people and getting the glowy sunset pictures. There’s a few stairs involved to get up so you may want to bring a comfy pair of shoes for this location!
Austin Public Library
This may not be a location that you first think of as a good spot for seniors, but the Austin library is actually my most-requested senior location! It has some of the best flowers and greenery and it’s conveniently located downtown for easy access to other locations. It’s such a fun spot and my seniors love it!
Seaholm Power Plant
The Seaholm district has an old power plant that is no longer in use, but great for downtown Austin photos! This location is right across from the library and is very urban looking. The front of the Power Plant has a row of trees with the railroad in the back. Behind are the actual pipes and power plant looking section. It definitely adds a unique aesthetic to your senior session!
If you want skyline views, the Long Center / Zilker park area is the best. This has full skyline views of downtown Austin. It’s best at sunset when the sky is lit up pinkish/orange!
UT Austin Campus
Even if you aren’t a UT grad (I’m talking to you high school seniors!) UT’s campus is a beautiful location for Austin senior portraits! There are tons of trees and greenery and some beautiful buildings and steps. It also has a pretty blue door that is super popular for pictures! You could do a whole session here without anyone even realizing you are on campus.
So there you have it! My favorite Austin Texas locations for portrait sessions. Do you have any other locations in Austin that you love? Let me know!
